When I heard there was a Trader Joe’s coming near me, I jumped for joy. Now that it’s been here a little while, I’m sharing five of my favorite pit stops and must-have items from Trader Joe’s for a healthy grocery haul below!
Trader Joe’s just might be more popular than Brangelina (you know, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie). For years I have heard about this enviable market that had cheap wine, fairly priced organic produce and delicious store brand goods.
For me, any time I was within 20 miles of a Trader Joe’s while on vacation, it was a landmark that we had to hit up. I’ve been to the one in NYC and Sarasota, FL and they were equally amazing!
You can only imagine my excitement when I heard there was a Trader Joe’s coming to Orlando that would be less than 5 miles from my house… say whattttttt?!
It’s been a while I first stepped foot in my neighborhood Trader Joe’s, and while I do split my shopping between Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, there are some items that always seem to find themselves a home in my shopping cart.
Below I’m sharing five of my favorite Trader Joe’s pit stops and items for a healthy grocery haul!
First stop, the produce section.
Every time I go to Trader Joe’s, I’m always amazed by how much I walk away with for the price. A large part of this has to do with their amazing produce section!
I find that Trader Joe’s always has a nice selection of organic produce (which I always follow the dirty dozen list) that is cheaper than most other grocery stores. However, if you are going in with a shopping list, it’s not uncommon to not be able to find a certain thing or two, especially if you are following a certain recipe.
What I love most about the produce section at Trader Joe’s is that they are always switching up their specialty items, such as these Ataulfo mangoes, or meyer lemons, persimmons, or heirloom tomatoes to name a few!
My next stop is usually a drive by through the bread section. While I avoid the bakery items, their sprouted 7-grain bread is the best I’ve tasted to date. It is slightly sweet and loaded with nutritious ingredients such as seven whole grains that have been sprouted, meaning they are easier to digest and have more nutrients available to be absorbed by the body.
Another item that always finds its way into my cart? Ezekiel brand cinnamon raisin bread! This stuff is the bomb, but it can be pricey. I’ve found it to be at least a few dollars cheaper at Trader Joe’s than Whole Foods… win!
Prepared Dips and Meals To Go
Some people aren’t so crazy about Trader Joe’s brand prepared foods, but I beg to differ. Their Spinach & Kale Greek Yogurt Dip is light and oh so delightful. I could eat the whole tub (but I try not to). Pair it with their quinoa and black bean chips and you have the perfect party appetizer when in a pinch!
If I’m shopping around lunchtime and know I need something to eat, I’ll often grab one of their prepared salads. You might even remember when I recreated their Asian Quinoa Salad here. I find them to be perfect portions for a light lunch with so many options to choose from!
Nuts and Dried Fruit
Remember when I organized my pantry with Mason jars? I have Trader Joe’s to thank for that! Their nut and dried fruit selection is quite extensive and has such a great variety – I think I have at least 10 different kinds of nuts and dried fruits on hand at all times.
Nut Butters and Spreads
Last but not least, I can’t talk about Trader Joe’s and not mention their nut butters and spreads. Their selection is a nut butter lover’s dream and includes various kinds of almond butters (the Trader Joe’s brand is perfect for drizzling!), superfood peanut butter and of course, their infamous cookie butter that is reserved as an occasional treat in our house because it is THAT addicting.
But not only are their nut butters delicious, their spreads are worth mentioning, too. Come fall time, I load my cart with pumpkin butter and am currently loving their fig butter! I’m thinking there’s a granola recipe in the works featuring this figgy goodness.
